Climate Adaptation for Coastal Communities

Developed in partnership by the NOAA National Marine Sanctuaries, University of Rhode Island Coastal Resources Center-Sea Grant, Center for Ocean Solutions, U.S. Agency for International Development, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, TetraTech Inc., and NOAA Coastal Services Center.

Overview

This three-and-a-half-day instructor-led course teaches participants about the latest climate science and fundamental concepts of adaptation planning while developing the necessary skills to proactively address impacts of climate change in coastal communities. Opportunities for local collaboration and next steps for adaptation planning and implementation are emphasized through discussion, participant activities, and incorporation of local speakers and examples.

The course is designed for program administrators, land use planners, public works staff members, floodplain managers, hazard mitigation planners, emergency managers, community groups, members of civic organizations, and coastal resource managers.

All training is provided by request and will be fulfilled as resources are available. Classes are brought to your organization. Twenty-two hours of certification maintenance credits for this course have been approved by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
